types of Concorde Covers we stock
Airline Covers
We stock a range of flown covers from British Airways and Air France which ended up as the only two airlines to fly Concorde commercially. In addition we have some unique covers from other airlines such as Braniff that toyed with the idea of purchasing Concordes before the reality of the challenges and costs of operating Concorde became evident amidst the 1970's oil crisis hit. Also included are flown covers from the Soviet Tupolev Tu-144 "Concordski" which had a short and troubled life.
Test / Trial Flights
From the first test flights in 1969 through to the first commercial flights in 1976 a number of covers were produced and flown on a range of development and trial flights. The test pilots who flew on those flights became household names in France and the UK such as Brian Trubshaw and Andre Turcat. Details of the flight details such as the routes, the maximum speeds and altitudes are stamped to the front of the covers and there are some unique catchets added for one off occurrences such as flights being delayed due to bad weather.
Signed Covers
Since the first flight of Concorde in 1969 covers have been flown on board flights and a select number of those were also signed by the test Pilots or Captains or in some instances the entire flight crew. These tend to be the most sought after covers and we have a number from the first flight in 1969 through to the anniversary covers produced in the years after Concorde was retired to commemorate specific Concorde anniversaries.
